Trained by the legendary Dr Gcina Mhlophe, Siyabonga has spent more than a decade using the power of stories to preserve culture, ignite imagination and transform lives. From theatre stages and television screens to classrooms and community spaces, his message remains the same: stories have the power to shape children, strengthen communities and keep our heritage alive. A recipient of the 2022 South African Literary Award (SALA) for his acclaimed novel Intlungu Yevezandlebe, Yamkela has authored five literary works and has become a respected voice in South African literature. His novels have also been featured on Umhlobo Wenene FM's Ufundo Lwencwadi, introducing thousands of listeners to the richness of isiXhosa storytelling. Beyond his writing, Yamkela is passionate about developing future educators, preserving indigenous languages, and empowering communities through literacy and education. His work reminds us that reading in our home languages strengthens identity, builds confidence, and keeps our stories alive.
